Born in Dagenham, Hayes made his name in his first spell with Scunthorpe and was an integral part of their 2004/05 promotion winning campaign.
After an excellent season, Paul earned himself a move to Championship side Barnsley where he impressed the Oakwell faithful with the opener in the 2006 play-off final vs Swansea.
After moves to Huddersfield, Preston and then Charlton, Hayes joined Wycombe on loan in 2011/12 season and scored 6 goals in 6 games before being recalled by Charlton. After spells at Brentford and Crawley, the striker re-signed for Scunthorpe in December 2013 and helped them to promotion to League One.
Upon his release from Scunthorpe, Paul signed a two-year deal with the Wanderers in June 2014 and scored 15 times throughout the season, as well as celebrating his 500th career appearance and 100th league goal.
He added five more goals to his tally during the 2015/16 campaign and went on to score another seven in 2016/17, including two memorable strikes in the FA Cup thriller against Tottenham Hotspur.
