Wesley Darius Charles
Date of birth
Gareth Ainsworth made his first signing of the summer with addition of defender Darius Charles.
Charles started his career with Brentford, working under Wanderers’ assistant manager Richard Dobson in the Bees’ youth setup, and enjoyed a number of loan spells in non-league before making a permanent switch to Ebbsfleet United in the National League, winning the club’s Player of the Year award in his first season.
His performances earned him a move to newly-promoted Stevenage and he tasted promotion in his debut season at the Lamex Stadium, going on to make more than 150 appearances ahead of a switch to Burton Albion.
Injury prevented him from making an appearance for the Brewers but he moved on loan to AFC Wimbledon, playing every minute of their successful play-off campaign which culminated in the Dons clinching promotion in the final against Plymouth Argyle at Wembley.
The defender made his move to the Dons permanent that summer and played 72 times over the past two seasons before opting to make the switch to Adams Park ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
