Attack-minded midfielder David Wheeler joined the Blues on a three-year deal on the eve of the 2019/20 season, leaving Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer.
Starting out in non-league with Staines and Lewes, Wheeler earned a move into the EFL with Exeter City and starred in the red and white stripes, scoring 20 times in the 2016/17 campaign to attract the attention of Championship side QPR.
After a strong start, Wheeler later moved out on loan to Portsmouth and MK Dons, scoring the goal that clinched MK’s promotion to League 1 on the final day of last season, before sealing a switch to Adams Park.
Wheeler had an extremely productive first season for Wycombe, playing 39 times in all competitions and netting a last-minute winner against MK Dons, which went onto be nominated for Goal of the Season. After scoring Wycombe’s third in the Semi-Final First-Leg victory against Fleetwood, Wheeler played in the remaining two games including the final, taking the Blues to the Championship.
