A product of the club’s youth team, Stewart was rewarded with his first professional contract in 2011, making his professional debut in January of the following year.

After helping Wanderers retain their Football League status in 2014, he left for Crewe Alexandra but returned a year later, forming an outstanding partnership at the back with Aaron Pierre who boasted the second-best defensive record in League Two that season.

Stewart continued to develop his game at Adams Park, being part of the promotion-winning squad in 2017/18 and helping the club survive in League 1 during the 2018/19 season.

In the 2019/20 season, he advanced that one step further, as he earned the Man of the Match award during the 2020 play-off final against Oxford, in which he scored and produced a goal-saving tackle to win the game 2-1 and take Wycombe to the Championship. He extended his contract at the end of the season, on a multi-year deal.
