Get to know the Chairgirls: Sarah Harrison

A short chat with Chairgirls' central-midfielder Harrison.

4 January 2022

Sheena Booker

Having previously played for Chesham United, Abingdon United and Oxford United, Sarah joined Wycombe in 2019. She spent a short season disrupted by COVID with Denham United before re-joining the Chairgirls at the start of the 2021/22 Southern Region Premier season.

Sarah plays in central midfield, mainly in a holding role, with Manager Dave Ward quick to tell her to ‘stay at home’ in the team talk. A dead ball specialist, Harris (as she’s known by the team), knows that she’s done a good job if opposing teams struggle to get anything through the middle of the park.

Sarah is sponsored by Adept Solutions Cooling Ltd, an air conditioning & refrigeration company. Based in Aylesbury, they offer design, installation, maintenance and repair of air con units.

What are your thoughts on the season so far?

I think it’s fair to say it hasn’t been an easy first half of the season, and the remaining will definitely be a challenge. However, it’s definitely a battle that the girls will want to fight and hopefully we can show ourselves to be the team we can be when we come together.

Do you have a favourite memory while playing for Wycombe?

I have a few. One of my best moments last season was beating one of our closest rivals in the league. All our previous meetings had been really close, which made the win all the more sweet in the end!

What piece of advice would you give to young women thinking of a career in football?

To enjoy it and play with a smile on your face. It sounds very generic advice, but football is something you should look forward to! As long as you play with a smile on your face and confidence, you’ll surprise yourself with what you can achieve!

What persuaded you to join the Chairgirls?

I had a few friends who played for Wycombe at the time, and I needed a change and a new motivation to get me enjoying the game I loved again.

Sarah has two goals to her name so far this season. One coming in a pre-season friendly against MK Dons Development, and her second - a well taken free-kick - against Winchester City Flyers.

You can catch Sarah Harrison and the Chairgirls in action on Sunday 9th January as they take on Abingdon Town, KO 2pm. Head up to the Buckinghamshire College Group, Spring Lane, Flackwell Heath to offer your support!
