Manchester City vs Wycombe Wanderers
Tuesday 21st September 2021 (KO 7.45pm)
Etihad Stadium
Referee: Robert Jones
Shirt Sleeve Sponsor: SHUFL Capital

Wycombe haven't won a game in 90 minutes in this competition since 2006; City haven't lost a game in this competition since 2016. The eight-time holders have held the trophy for four consecutive years - and yet Wycombe will travel north to the Etihad Stadium believing they have what it takes to claim one of their biggest scalps of all time.

Gareth Ainsworth's men have proven themselves to be awkward opponents to Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur in recent times, and Pep Guardiola will certainly know more about the Wanderers' battling qualities and developing talents after the 90 minutes are up tonight.

He's hinted that he's likely to field a host of young starlets due to a deepening injury crisis and hectic fixture schedule, but even their academy graduates are a force to be reckoned with - particularly if he decides to sprinkle in the likes of Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez and Kevin de Bruyne to give them the chance to improve their match sharpness.

For Wycombe, the focus this season rests firmly on the league, and they come into this match off the back of a sparkling display in the win against Charlton, knowing they need to reserve some energy for the trip to MK Dons on Saturday.

Tickets are no longer available to buy. Pre-booked tickets can be collected from Adams Park before 12pm, or from the South Stand ticket office at the Etihad from 6.15pm.

Man in the middle
Robert Jones was the referee for Wycombe's League 1 play-off final victory against Oxford at Wembley in July 2020, and also officiated the 2-0 home defeat to Norwich in February.

He's officiated only two games this season, showing five yellows.

Haven't we met?
Wycombe recorded a remarkable double over City when they met in the league for the only times in 1998/99.
