After much heart-searching and discussion, WWEPA have decided to postpone their annual dinner which was scheduled for November 26.
A new date will be set for early May when it’s hoped a full house of members from every era – which has been the norm in previous years – will be able to attend.
The Covid pandemic forced the cancellation of last year’s event. The continuing threat meant a lot of our older members were still dubious about being confined inside a packed Adams Park for what is normally a five-hour bonanza. Others had wanted the most popular event in the Ex-Players’ calendar to restart and were looking forward to reliving Wycombe’s first Wembley triumph 30 years on.
We’ve had some fun over the years and the return of the 1991 heroes, including manager Martin O’Neill, would have been a fantastic draw. But the six-month delay might increase anticipation even further. Who knows, we might - on current League 1 form - be able to combine that look-back with a promotion party!
What it has highlighted is the need for our organisation to recruit more younger members. Already on the hunt for a new Treasurer and Membership Assistant while Glyn Creaser recovers from his death-defying cardiac arrest, the search for new, fresh faces is becoming more urgent.
Step up boys. We need you.
