Scowen reflects on tough Rotherham battle

Midfielder shares thoughts on hard fought point.

20 October 2021

Wycombe midfielder Josh Scowen has admitted "that wasn't the most enjoyable game" as his side were held to a stalemate by Rotherham United.

The Chairboys had limited chances on a wet night at the New York Stadium, with both sets of defenders standing resolute to keep the ball out either net.

The Blues have taken four points from six in the last two matches in South Yorkshire, after seeing off Doncaster Rovers in a 2-0 victory on Saturday.

"I won’t lie, that wasn’t the best of games to play in," Scowen claims. "But the boys dug deep and we battled hard, so it was a good point in the end.

"We're happy with the four points. Obviously, it would have been nice to get six, but to go back home now with that under our belts, going into Saturday now I'd say we're in a good place."

Academy product Scowen was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge from the Millers inside two minutes, which set the tone for a fiery and fiesty opening period to the game.

And while the game didn't kick on to produce goals thereafter, the 28-year-old expresses that a draw to a side who will be challenging the Chairboys for promotion come the end of the season is testament to the players that manager Gareth Ainsworth has at his disposal.

"Being in the Championship last season, we’ve got some real quality players here. It’s come a long way since I started out here, and it’s been a pleasure to return and see how much we’ve come," he continues.

"There are some really good teams in this league this year, so we have to be on our game all the time, and if we're on it against Crewe, we’re more than capable to get another three points at home."

It was a solid team performance all-round to take the point back to Adams Park ahead of the bout with Crewe Alexandra this weekend, but Scowen has been particularly impressed with the backline behind him in recent games.

"It’s three clean sheets in a row for us now so all the plaudits go to them, they've been excellent anit's something to build on.

"Hopefully we can keep another clean sheet and hopefully knock in a few goals up the other end as well on Saturday."
