Report: Women's Reserves hit Lions for six

Another strong performance from the young Chairgirls.

3 October 2021

The Chairgirls followed on from their victory last week with a very commanding 6-0 win against unknown quantity EB Lions.

Starting fast, Wycombe were 1-0 within 3 minutes when striker Naimh Creighton collected a through ball from Amy Norfolk and slotted coolly into the bottom corner with just the keeper to beat.

Almost identical to the first, Amelia Gilbert made it 2-0 on 5 minutes, coming in from the right wing to receive a through ball from opposite winger Sally Grimm and pass it into the net.

Not wanting to settle on their fantastic start, Wycombe were on the all out attack and EB Lions didn’t really have an answer for it. Apart from in the 12th minute to bring down defender Emma Dean on the edge of the box, only to see her wipe herself down and put the resulting free kick through the keepers raised hands and into the middle of the net!

Naimh Creighton was unlucky to not add to her tally when taking the ball around two defenders and hitting the post in the 14th minute and then, after EB Lions registered their first shot on goal in the 18th minute, seeing her header from a trademark Sally Grimm cross being saved the opposition keeper.

The game then settled down, being played mostly in the middle third of the pitch, that was until the 33rd minute when a fantastic run from Emma Dean saw her pass two defenders and clear the keeper only to see her shot come back off of the cross bar.

Finishing the first half as they had started, we saw Amy Norfolk shoot over, Creighton lose out on a 1v1 with the keeper and Gilbert fail to convert another through ball.

Half time: Wycombe 3-0 EB Lions

Expecting EB Lions to come out stronger for the 2nd half, the chairgirls were a little more reserved and rode their luck when the lions shot wide on 55 minutes.

Making sure of the result on 60 minutes was Brooke Sanders, stepping up from the U18’s, receiving the ball on the edge of the box, turning and shooting into the bottom corner to make it 4-0.

The fourth goal seemed to give the Chairgirls some more impetus and Sally Grimm was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet on 65 minutes when she shot just wide having made a run down the wing. Grimm did in fact add to the score on the 80th minute when she hit the top corner of the net from 25 yards out leaving the EB keeper no chance. This goal was quickly followed by a fantastic run from centre back by Eve Savage who was unlucky to see her shot hit the side netting after taking on half of the defence on her own.

A great cross from the left by Naimh Creighton saw Sally Grimm meet it on the volley in the 43rd minute but unluckily this went just over. There was, however, one more goal to come and this was in the 90th minute when captain Emilie Bamford danced around 2 defenders and scored in the bottom near corner on her weaker foot.

6-0 was a great result for the Chairgirls and fills them with confidence for their next match, away to Chinnor Ladies on Sunday 10thOctober.
