Report: Women's U18s continue strong form

Another convincing win sees the U18s stay at the business end of the table.

9 October 2021

The U18s continued their strong season start at home against Tilehurst Panthers.

The sun was out at Lane End this Saturday and The Chairgirls U18 team were looking forward to welcoming Tilehurst. These two teams have had many entertaining and competitive matches over the years and this one did not disappoint.

Wycombe started strongly, keen to get back to winning ways after last weeks first defeat of the season. The players looked bright and the play was fast and furious. Tilehurst Panthers were having to defend hard and the first opportunity of the game came to Naomi Tilley who was taken down right on the edge of the box. Naomi stepped up to take the free kick but sent this over the top of the bar. The Chairgirls were fired up now though and were in an attacking mood. The first goal saw Jess Gomes switch play to Amelia Gilbert on the right hand side who struck a great shot just inside the box over the keeper on the 39th minute 1-0! Two minutes later, Wycombe struck again with a short corner. Ruby Paish passed to Jorja Louise Bray who made a lovely cross into the box for the two Jess’s to combine to complete the move.

Half time: Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 Tilehurst Panthers

Tilehurst are never a team to underestimate and they started the second half the brighter of the two teams. Our back three of Georgia Price, Chloe Mackay and Vicky Collett had to work hard. Jess Gomes who had volunteered to go in goal for the second half due to injuries within the team, did a super job pulling off a couple of great saves. Tilehurst continued to press and won a penalty for their efforts for a late challenge in the box. Luckily for Wycombe, the Tilehurst defender dragged the penalty wide as this could have significantly changed the rest of the game.

Due to the depth of our squad, Wycombe were able to make a number of substitutions which allowed them to take back control of the game for the final quarter. Goal number three came from Molly Carter. She dragged the defender out to the left, cut the ball back and then curled a sublime right footed strike straight into the far top corner to make it 3-0!

The Chairgirls topped off a determined performance with an 89th minute goal with a left footed strike from Ruby Paish which was well finished at a tight angle - 4-0.

Full time: Wycombe Wanderers 4-0 Tilehurst Panthers

Special thanks to Ruby Paish, Brooke Sanders and Jess Gomes for volunteering for going in goal.

Another great game and the team are looking forward to their first cup game of the season next week!
