Wycombe Wanderers vs Burton Albion
Tuesday 9th November 2021 (KO 7pm)
Referee: Benjamin Speedie
Wycombe play hosts to Burton Albion in both teams' final Papa John's Trophy fixture of the 2021/22 campaign.
Neither sides are able to progress into the next round of the competition, as the Chairboys fell to a 2-1 defeat at MK Dons, whilst Burton were beaten 4-2 by Aston Villa U21s, meaning this match will only decide who finishes 3rd and who finishes bottom of the group.
On the weekend both teams were in FA Cup action, as Wycombe held Hartlepool to a 2-2 draw to secure a replay, whilst the Brewers sailed into the second round after a 2-1 win over Fleetwood.
The fixture kicks off a series of four games in a row for Wycombe at Adams Park, with matches against Portsmouth, the Hartlepool replay and Bolton all to come over the next 11 days.
Gareth Ainsworth will make full use of his options from the development squad as the heavy run of fixtures loom ahead, with the game being a great opportunity to give the young players plenty of minutes out on the field to gain experience and confidence.
However, the gaffer will be without Tjay De Barr, Sullay Kaikai and Daryl Horgan, who have all jetted off on international duty for their respective nations.
As for Burton, they also have players who received call-ups, with Daniel Jebbison representing England U19s, and Terry Taylor being picked for Wales U21s.
Man in the middle
Benjamin Speedie is the man in charge of this one.
This is the first match of his that will feature the Chairboys. In 16 games this season, he has given out 45 yellow cards and two reds.
