Another strong performance from the U18s sees them to an emphatic victory.

29 November 2021

The Chairgirls travelled to Maidenhead Ravens in the hope of continuing their fine league form.

On Saturday morning, many league matches were postponed, yet at Oaken Grove, both sides braved the freezing conditions with a spirited display.

From the get-go The Chairgirls found their rhythm despite the conditions, and they were determined to get the ball down and play football.

The Chairgirls looked menacing with threatening runs along either flank and with less than five mins on the clock, Jess Fuller’s deflected shot found the back of the Maidenhead net.

Chloe Mackay was in a determined mood all match, working hard in right midfield and had a brace of well struck goals in quick succession, leaving the keeper with little chance. 0-3 Wycombe.

Minutes later Molly Carter added a fourth,  arriving in the box at just the right time.

On 30 minutes Naomi Tilley weaved her way towards the goal with some clever footwork, carved out a shot on the left which struck the crossbar and Jorja-Louise Bray stole the ball from the advancing keeper with a clever lob finish to make it 0-5!

Not to be denied Naomi Tilley broke into the box 5 minutes later with a tidy well hit finish. The Chairgirls went into the break 0-6 up.

Half-time: Maidenhead Ravens 0-6 Wycombe Wanderers

Halftime hot chocolate helped the Chairgirls thaw slightly as they battled now with snow, rain, hail, and a ferocious wind.

The weather was not going to stop these youngsters and within five minutes of the restart the Chairgirls continued where they left off, Jess Fuller’s well-timed run and shot was well saved by the keeper but our sniper in the box Molly Carter arrived in timely fashion to pounce: 0-7.

Wycombe were relentless in their pursuit of more goals, with a super run along the left flank and a cut-back pass to Nina Cook, which was fantastically struck from the edge of the box into the far corner, leaving the keeper with little chance, an absolute ripper! 0-8.

In the 70th minute, Molly Carter guided in a cross from Jess Fuller to get her well deserved hatrick 0-9.

Jess Gomes found the cold conditions tough and throughout the match had a number of shots denied due to some fantastic and brave defensive efforts from Maidenhead. But, after 75 minutes, her efforts were justly rewarded, with a well-hit, low shot leaving the keeper little chance 0-10.

Full-time: Maidenhead Ravens 0-10 Wycombe Wanderers

Maidenhead should be congratulated for their desire to push and challenge, they never gave up and battled on bravely.  Wycombe had number of further chances which were well kept out by the defiant Maidenhead keeper, who once again stood out and was their player of the match.

The Chairgirls were all smiles when the final whistle blew and deservedly went home to warm up and enjoy the rest of the weekend. Next week, Wargrave - we cannot wait!
