Gareth Ainsworth said the atmosphere created by a live crowd at Wembley Stadium for Saturday’s FA Cup Final showed why the footballing world – including all Wycombe Wanderers supporters – should be excited for the return of fans to grounds next season.
20,000 supporters roared on as Leicester overcame Chelsea to lift the coveted trophy, and Ainsworth – who watched the game at home with his family – said the occasion only whetted the appetite of playing in packed-out stadia in the 2021/22 campaign.
“It was awesome to see a game with fans after all this time, and the scenes when the goal went in – and at the end - were enough to make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. It was an incredible atmosphere and it just makes you realise how much we’ve all missed having fans inside the stadium over the past year or so.
“There is so much to look forward to next season, on and off the pitch, and I think our performances over the past few weeks have given everyone a massive boost and real optimism that we can have a successful year.
“The club has worked so hard to improve the facilities for fans around the stadium and it’s going to be an amazing experience to be part of when that first game comes around.
“I know season tickets have been selling really well and we’re all hugely appreciative of the support that’s being shown. Keep on buying, keep telling your mates, and together we can get this place rocking and continue to build something more and more special for this wonderful club.”
