A Wycombe Wanderers XI romped to victory over Soccer AM in a hard-fought friendly match on the Adams Park pitch on Tuesday afternoon.

Gareth Ainsworth scored twice in a 6-2 victory against the crew of the popular TV show, who also fielded former Chairboys midfielder Sam Saunders and Lionesses legend Lianne Sanderson.

Ainsworth opened the scoring with a tidy finish from a low cross from the left, and Sam Grace doubled the lead with a stylish finish off the inside of the post, with Matt Bloomfield pulling the strings in midfield.

The visitors pulled one back from close range before the break, but Ainsworth’s exquisite chip after the break proved to be the outstanding goal of the game, with Pete Couhig also netting for the Blues.

Saunders scored Soccer AM’s second goal of the game in controversial circumstances, with Wanderers appealing to referee Neil Harman that his floated shot hadn’t crossed the line, but Dr Bob Sangar and Alicia Povey put the game out of sight, with Ainsworth graciously passing up the opportunity to complete his hat-trick in stoppage time by teeing up Povey, who rifled home.

Wycombe: Sean Woodley, Matt Cecil, Harry Hoath, David Wates, Lee Harrison, Matt Bloomfield, Josh Hart, Isaac Leckie, Gareth Ainsworth, Pete Couhig, Sam Grace.

Subs (all used): Ben Sayers, Ross Barlow, Josh Easterbrook, Ben Griffiths, Csaba Handa, Alicia Povey, Bob Sangar, Harry Gadd, Troy Russel.
