Darius Charles has penned a heartfelt message on his Instagram page, on the day the news broke that his playing contract at Adams Park will not be extended.
As one door closes so to shall another open. My time at Wycombe Wanderers has been nothing short of a rollercoaster of emotions, from the deepest depths of despair being told to retire, to the astronomical heights of promotion to the Championship.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have had many great times and successes during my career, both personally and professionally, and all of them - as incredible as they were - pale in comparison to my time here.
Professionally, reaching a level I’d never gone to before BUT personally as a man I’ve grown more in my three years at Wycombe than at any other time in my life. Because of this club I’ve learned to show myself love, compassion, understanding, care and kindness.
I came to a club to play football and inadvertently stumbled across what it is to be a man of integrity. Because of the staff and my teammates I learned it was ok to be vulnerable, it was ok to cry, it was ok to be you because you are enough just as you are. This club showed me how to be comfortable to turn up in the world as my authentic self and there’ll never be a way to repay that.
To all the fans who supported me when I was a burden to the club not being able to play that showed love and care: THANK YOU. Thank you for all your support, thank you for your kind words, thank you for allowing me in to make this house my home and thank you showing a boy who came from nothing everything.
This is not goodbye, simply a see you later.
