Garath McCleary spoke to us at the new training kit photoshoot about the season ahead, personal aims and lining up against FA Cup holders Leicester City during pre-season.
How are you feeling about being back?
I’m really happy to be back. Obviously, when the season’s going on you can’t wait for a break, but after having seven or eight weeks out, I’m itching to get back. It’ll be great to see all the boys and get into a strict routine in my life again - my kids have been on my back over the break!
What’s the atmosphere been like at the training ground?
It’s been really good. There have been a lot of changes - a few on the pitch as well as equipment and buildings. It’ll help us start the season at 100% and it’ll be good to see everyone back.
How has pre-season been treating you so far?
I did a bit of testing yesterday and had a session today which is quite tough but I’ve got a day off before we start properly, so I should be okay!
We’ve got the Leicester City friendly to look forward to. Are you looking forward to it?
It’ll be good to test ourselves against a well-established Premier League outfit. They’ve got some very good players, but especially with the way we finished last season, it’ll be great to test ourselves against the very best.
Any personal aims this season?
The aim will obviously be to get back into the Championship if we’re in League One. The aim is just to do as well as we can whichever league we end up in.
Also, score a few more, assist a few more and generally do my best for the team.
