The traditions of the FA Cup have been in danger of falling by the wayside in recent times, and there'll be no tin foil replicas of the famous trophy or terrace talk of 2001 at an empty Adams Park for this clash between two Championship sides.

There is, however, the incentive of a real opportunity for a cup run, in a year where the contest is dominated by under-strength sides, potential postponements and squad rotation in a busier-than-ever fixture schedule.

Cup runs can breed winning habits, as Gareth Ainsworth alluded to in his press conference this week, but also bring financial reward, prestigious visits to the country's top clubs, and opportunities to shine for players who maybe haven't enjoyed game time in league fixtures of late.

A 2-2 draw between these two clubs in December showed that perhaps the gulf in quality has narrowed since the Lilywhites demolished a League 2 Wycombe 5-1 at the same stage in 2018, and Gareth Ainsworth's men now go in search of a return to winning ways against the side he represented in three different spells during his career.

Here are the highlights from Wanderers' 3-1 loss to Middlesbrough:

Meanwhile, Preston went down to Nottingham Forest:

Team News
Gareth Ainsworth could hand a debut to Leicester loanee Admiral Muskwe, while Josh Knight is available again after his return to the club on loan from the Foxes. Dominic Gape and Anthony Stewart are close to a return and could be in contention. Daryl Horgan is in line to feature against the club for whom he scored in that 5-1 win at Adams Park three years ago.

Preston are without goalkeeper Declan Rudd plus Louis Moult, Billy Bodin and Patrick Bauer, while Ben Pearson - who was injured in the league meeting between the sides - could make his return. They've signed midfielder Jayson Molumby and keeper Daniel Iversen on loan this week.

Kit
Wanderers will be in their light and dark blue quarters.

Man in the Middle
Stephen Martin has shown just 34 yellow cards and no reds in his 17 games so far this season, which included the 0-0 draw against Huddersfield in November.
