Wycombe Wanderers are delighted to once again be supporting Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces Campaign this year, in partnership with the EFL.
Our home fixture against Burton Albion on Tuesday 7th December will be dedicated to the campaign, which will see us proudly display the rainbow flag around Adams Park in order to raise awareness of issues surrounding LGBTQI+ inclusion in football.
To kick off the campaign, the Chairboys are releasing a special-edition rainbow shirt, based on our famous quarters, which is now available to pre-order only from the club shop website*. The shirt emphasizes the club’s vision of making Adams Park a safe space where LGBTQI+ fans, officials and staff feel valued, and we hope this new initiative will be another step towards achieving that.
With the Rainbow Laces fixture fast approaching, manager Gareth Ainsworth said: “Here at Wycombe Wanderers, we’re fully committed to making sure that everyone can be themselves and feels welcome and part of who we are. The Rainbow Laces campaign is hugely important for stamping out homophobia and raising awareness around how it’s not okay to discriminate against anyone because of their sexuality.”
“We were the first club to sign the Government Charter for Action against Homophobia in Football in 2011 and are proud to once against support Rainbow Laces this year.”
The club has always strived to be an inclusive and welcoming place, with the newly formed All Quarters Club aiming to enhance that further. The All Quarters project is a consultative fan group that seeks to gather views on how the club can move forward in its inclusivity, with input from four traditionally under-represented groups; those with disabilities, people from minority ethnicity backgrounds, women & girls, and those from the LGBTQI+ community.
With the club participating in the Rainbow Laces campaign and looking to create a more inclusive environment, we are keen to hear from any LGBTQI+ fans who would like to get involved in the All Quarters Club. You can find more information on the project, plus the dates of upcoming consultation events here.
*Please note that as they are being made to order, the pre-ordered shirts will be delivered from February onwards. The special edition shirt is for retail only and will not be worn by the team in the Burton fixture.
