Resplendent in their new gold and white kit, the U18 Wycombe Wanderers Women's team were in sparkling form this weekend.
The match kicked off at a pace and Wargrave thought that they had snatched the lead but saw the ball loop over the crossbar in the opening stages of the game. This spurred the Chairgirls into action and we saw Naomi Tilley immediately turn on the magic, scoring 2 long range goals in quick succession. 20 minutes on the clock and the Chairgirls were two to the good.
The team had now found their rhythm against a spirited Wargrave side and it wasn’t long until fans were treated to some great teamwork between Jorja Louise Bray and Summer Smith. Summer made a great weighted pass to Jorja-Louise who smashed the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0.
Half-time: Wycombe Wanderers 3-0 Wargrave
The Chairgirls came out of the blocks at speed in the second half and their high intensity soon paid off with a wide strike from Jorja-Louise Bray which looped over the keeper to make it 4-0.
On the 55th and 56th minute, Molly Carters hard work was rewarded with a brace of goals in super quick succession, taking the goal tally to 6.
Lenis Cook, facing her old team, was impressive in midfield. A cross into the box saw a deflection into the goal by a Wargrave defender, to make it 7-0 to Wycombe.
Wargrave’s resilience paid off when a back pass to Chairgirls' keeper Sophie Carter created some confusion - the ball was intercepted by the Wargrave striker who took the goal nicely to the joy of Wargrave spectators; 7-1.
It wasn’t long before the Chairgirls pressed forward again. Jess Gomes weaved herself into the Wargrave penalty area but was brought down in the box. Charlotte Hill was never going to be denied and struck a great left footed penalty into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance. 8-1.
The girl of the game Jorja-Louise Bray was on fire today and was hunting her hattrick. This came in the 80th minute with a direct free kick right into the back of the net. 9-1.
The last goal of the game was scored in the 88th minute by Jess Gomes who skilfully worked her way past three advancing defenders before firing the ball past the goalkeeper.
Full-time: Wycombe Wanderers 10-1 Wargrave.
A solid and skilful team performance again by the U18’s who are hoping this momentum puts them in great stead for Wokingham and Embrook next weekend at Lane End.
A special mention to Ruby Paish, Amelia Sage and Naomi Tilley who also represented the Women's First team on Sunday proving the great success of our new player pathway.
