Report: Chairgirls U18s overcome Caversham

The young Chairgirls stay top of the tree for Christmas.

21 December 2021

The U18s overcame a determined Caversham side in their final fixture before Christmas on Saturday.

The Chairgirls took the Lane End pitch in determined fashion on Saturday and despite taking the lead after the first few minutes, Caversham pushed the young team hard and nearly spoilt the party.

Noami Tilley opened the scoring. She finished well from close range after some fantastic build up play just outside the box, with the final threaded pass tucked away nicely to give the Chairgirls the lead.

With a heavy pitch, Caversham rallied and their efforts were rewarded with a clever equaliser after 20 minutes. This galvanised the visitors who were very tough to break down for the remainder of the 1st half.

Half-time: Wycombe Wanderers 1-1 Caversham

It would be fair to say the Chairgirls weren’t at their best on Saturday and perhaps had Christmas on their minds! Nevertheless they still continued to create a number of chances but lacked composure in the final third, rushing their shots on goal and because of this, rarely troubled the Caverham keeper.

The Chairgirls carried on in their pursuit for goals and after another move which appeared to have broken down Jess Gomes somehow found the ball at her feet and she powerfully ran into the box unchallenged before neatly tucking the ball past the keeper in the 60th minute.

This was the goal that finally broke Caversham and that flicked the Chairgirls' switch in their relentless pursuit of more goals and neat possession to wrap up another three points for their league campaign.

On 75 minutes, the Chairgirls fed the ball from wide left to Jorja-Louise Bray in the centre of midfield who hit the ball skilfully first time from 25-yards which looped over the keeper's head, wrapping up the match.

Full-time: Wycombe Wanderers 3-1 Caversham

In summary the girls have worked well to bring this recently established side together and should be congratulated in their efforts. Furthermore, more than 6 of these squad players have made numerous appearances for our senior teams which have helped to strengthen these sides.

We look forward to going again in the New Year and look forward to welcoming our injured players back.
