The Bucks Free Press’s Wanderers reporter – James Richings – will be undertaking a poignant walk to Adams Park from his home in Aylesbury for Saturday’s match against AFC Wimbledon, raising funds for the British Heart Foundation in memory of his grandfather Roland.
James is a familiar face in the press box at Adams Park and will be leaving his car at home this weekend to instead strap up his walking boots and join his brother Edward on the 15-mile walk, which is expected to take around five hours to complete.
He said: “On June 13, 2009, my family's world was rocked when my grandfather, Roland Richings, died suddenly of a heart attack aged 67. His passing occurred just 26 days before his birthday and not a day goes by where we don't think about him.
“In the summer of 2019, my brother and I organised a charity pub quiz in his name in honour of the 10th anniversary of his passing which was a roaring success, as we, through the help of our friends and family raised hundreds of pounds for the British Heart Foundation to help raise awareness for cardiovascular issues. And we're hoping to raise money funds this Christmas.”
“We're hoping to raise £670 as my grandad passed away at the age of 67. Any donations will be welcome and we thank anyone who will support us in the next month or so.”
