Bodger helps with ‘Spring Clean’ in honour of World Earth Day in town centre

Club mascot supports 'My Wycombe' and Chiltern Rangers event.

26 April 2021

High Wycombe town centre received a ‘spring clean’ this past weekend, with HWBIDCo’s ‘Town Tidy’ event welcoming over 50 litter picking volunteers - including Wanderers mascot Bodger - in honour of World Earth Day (22nd April).

Working in teams, groups were dispatched along the high street & Frogmoor, as well as down to a section of the Wye by the Wycombe Swan.

Ably supervised by local eco-heroes, Chiltern Rangers, a grand haul was removed from the river, including a supermarket trolley, four traffic cones and 12 bin bags of other miscellaneous waste – from bottles & cans, to crisp packets, sunglasses & even a shoe!

With all the rubbish being kindly taken care of for free, courtesy of local waste-management experts, Hawes Skips, all the litter was piled high into a skip, and sent away to be responsibly recycled, no longer left as a blight on the town’s public spaces.

Shoppers in the high street also played their part in the war against waste through our ‘Plastic Bag Amnesty’, handing over 100’s of single use plastic bags in return for a re-useable branded High Wycombe tote. The plastic bags will be recycled and repurposed for sustainable future use.

Chief Executive of HWBidCo – the town centre team, Melanie Williams, commented, “The ‘Town Tidy’ was such a success, and it was brilliant to see so many volunteers from the local area, all actively participating for the benefit of the community. There was a real sense of achievement amongst everyone, and it showed that by working together how much of a positive impact we can have on our town centre, truly for everyone to enjoy.”
