RECRUITING: WWSET Custody Intervention Coach

WWSET wishes to thank Thames Valley Police and the New Era Foundation for funding this role.

7 October 2020

Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust are excited to announce that we are currently seeking applications for the newly created post of ‘Custody Intervention Coach’ (CIC) who will play the leading role in delivering the DIVERT Programme which seeks to reduce reoffending amongst local people aged 18-25 years old.

DIVERT is delivered in police custody suites and aims to support young adults aged 18 – 25 years away from crime by introduced specialist CIC’s from local professional football club community organisations (such as WWSET) to engage detainees during their time in police custody.

The DIVERT programme addresses a gap in the statutory provision for young adults and involves the CIC explaining the numerous available positive paths that the arrested individual can be referred to. The CIC then follows this up with a long term development plan to assist the individual in fulfilling their own goals relating to education, training and employment.

The role of WWSET’s CIC will be based mainly in Aylesbury Police Stations Custody Suite where they will be working on a daily basis engaging with detainees and various members of the police family. The CIC will remain totally independent from the police investigation whilst delivering this new and innovative intervention programme.

It is the CIC’s responsibility to successfully engage detainees in order to assess their motivation to make positive change and to start an intervention plan to prevent them from re-offending.

The CIC will be provided with full training to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfil the role.
