Wycombe Wanderers Ladies stormed to the top of the table with an emphatic victory last weekend, beating Newbury 9-1.
The Chairgirls returned home to face Newbury in the league and quickly got into their stride when a Sam Jackson corner was met by the head of Katie Hudson who powerfully placed the ball past the Newbury keeper with only three minutes on the clock.
However, whilst the Chairgirls dominated possession they were all too profligate in front of goal with shots raining in from distance and posing no real threat on the visitors goal.
Charlotte Parrett got in on the act when her well struck shot hit a defender to wrong foot the Newbury keeper and extend the lead. Rae Roberts added a 4th following a good pass from Jackson with a well struck shot hard and low into the net in the 43rd minute.
Despite the dominant score line, the Chairgirls were perhaps not playing at their best with many wasted opportunities and poor choices made in front of goal. However, after a half time discussion, the Chairgirls came out and showed their intent to play the right way and to create good opportunities to stretch their lead and to enjoy the remaining 45 minutes. On 49 minutes Jackson made no mistake with a well struck finish from the edge of the box leaving the keeper no chance.
Mobbs added to her tally a minute later when she dispossessed a defender and then beat the keeper to make it 6-1 to the hosts. It took another two minutes for Mobbs to seal her hat trick when Roberts deft touch released her for another composed finish.
The Chairgirls retained possession well and Newbury, to their credit, made life difficult in preventing any clear cut chances for their hosts. It took a thunderous strike from Lindsay Pinker in the 82nd minute to add the eighth goal. Those lucky enough to have been there or seen the video clip on Twitter will see how good a goal this was. Pinker completed the scoring in the 88th minute when she added the 9th from a clever back-heel from the alert Mobbs.
This victory took the Chairgirls to the top of the table on goal difference as they continued their bright start to the league campaign.
