Return of the Mac - remix edition!

Right-back could feature against Rochdale.

18 January 2020

Gareth Ainsworth has brought Jason McCarthy back to Wycombe Wanderers for a third time, securing a loan move until the end of the season for the Millwall defender.

McCarthy departed Adams Park for the Championship in July, but was limited to just five appearances for the Lions, paving the way for his return to the Chairboys to bolster the defensive unit in the absence of injured right-back Jack Grimmer.

The 24-year-old won the Supporters’ Player of the Year in his maiden campaign with Wycombe during a loan spell from Southampton in 2015/16, and returned on a permanent deal in 2018 from Barnsley, again winning the Supporters’ Player of the Year prize last term.

Ainsworth said: “Once we knew Jason was available, we had no hesitation in bringing him back to the club to strengthen our defensive options, because we know all about what a first-class player and professional he is to have around the place.

“With Jack having been injured in recent weeks, we wanted to make sure we had another option at right-back and also in the middle of defence, and Jason fits the bill perfectly.

“The boys loved having him back around the place today and I’ve no doubt he’ll settle right back in and hit the ground running. I’m sure the fans can’t wait to see him back in Wycombe colours and picking up where he left off last season.”

Jason will wear squad number 26 and will be involved in the squad for today's game against Rochdale at Adams Park.
