The Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust has recently received a generous donation from the Wycombe Wanderers Ex-Players Association after their former player and manager, Peter Suddaby was treated there.
On 23 January Peter, and former club-mate Keith Samuels, visited the Buckinghamshire Neurorehabilitation Unit (BNRU) at Amersham Hospital to see the team and the new pieces of equipment the Association funded. The money raised has provided a ‘Sara Stedy’, which helps to move patients safely and encourage mobility, along with four chairs with adjustable feet so that the height can modified to suit different patient requirements.
The team on the unit were delighted with the donation, the provision of a ‘Sara Stedy’ means the unit now has two so one can remain on the ward and the other will be kept in the physiotherapy gym, enabling swift movement of patients as and when required.
Keith Samuels, on behalf of Wycombe Wanderers Ex-Players Association, said: “The Association wanted to give something back to the units that had treated Peter and helped with his rehabilitation following his stroke. Peter had a long career as a professional footballer with Blackpool and Brighton after starting and ending his playing career at Wycombe. He was made only too aware of what was needed in the Unit and we are pleased to have made life a little better for others in the same situation as him.”
