Chairboys stars to deliver church service on BBC local radio

Quartet to share stories of faith in football across the airwaves.

31 December 2020

Four Chairboys stars will join club chaplain Benedict Musola on a special church service broadcast across the country on 38 BBC local radio stations on Sunday 3rd January from 8am.

Adebayo Akinfenwa, Jason McCarthy, Alex Samuel and Cameron Yates will share their experiences of faith in football during this episode of the popular series of 30-minute Christian services, which are aired on FM and also available via BBC Sounds.

The series began in March, and have included broadcasts from Archbishop Justin Welby, Cardinal Vincent Nichols and Archbishop John Sentamu, earning acclaim nationwide for easing feelings of loneliness and isolation during the pandemic.

Chris Burns, Head of Local Radio for the BBC, says: “We know from personal testament just how important these broadcasts have proved to be. They have played an important role in bringing communities together virtually so no one need feel they are on their own.

“We expanded our religious programming on the first weekend of lockdown in March and will continue to broadcast services and reflections until life returns to normal.

“I am incredibly proud of the work our teams have carried out since the pandemic began.”

Although places of worship reopened earlier this year, strict social distancing measures were in place and singing was forbidden.

Listen out for the special Wycombe Wanderers service on Sunday 3rd January from 8am on your local BBC radio station.
