Ofoborh completes the summer signings

Cherries midfielder makes it 12 new recruits.

2 September 2019

Gareth Ainsworth’s summer of recruitment has concluded with the capture of 19-year-old midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh on a season-long loan from Premier League side AFC Bournemouth.

The former Tottenham and Millwall youngster has captained the Cherries’ under-21 side, winning the club’s Young Player of the Year prize in 2017/18, and represented Nigeria in the under-20 World Cup this summer.

Ainsworth said: “Nnamdi is a player I’ve admired for a long time and I know he’s very highly-rated at Bournemouth, so I’m delighted to be able to bring him here. He’s done extremely well for them throughout pre-season and comes to us sharp and ready to play.

“He’s a very strong and powerful midfielder who suits our style, and can also cover in the centre of defence which could be valuable for us. I’m excited to see what he can bring to the team and would like to thank Eddie Howe at Bournemouth for allowing him to continue his development here.

“That’s it now for our recruitment over the summer, and I’m really pleased with the quality of players that we’ve been able to bring in. It’s taken a lot of hard work from a lot of people, including my scouts, our club secretary Kelly Francis, the medical staff and BMI Healthcare with the medicals, my assistant Richard Dobson and the rest of the training ground staff, the chairman, and also Rob and Pete Couhig and Mark Palmer who’ve supported me every step of the way and enabled us to strengthen the squad.

“We’ve started the season well and now we want to build on it, knowing we’ve got some fantastic options right throughout the team, and also magnificent backing from the fans who are really getting behind what we’re doing. It’s been an exciting time for everyone involved with the club but for me it’s all about keeping our feet on the ground and focusing on the next game, which is a very tough game against Lincoln City on Saturday which we’ll be working hard as always to prepare for, and hoping for another big crowd to spur us on.”
