First-half goals from Samantha Jackson and Tara Woodward helped Wycombe Wanderers Ladies record their first league win of the season, overcoming Oxford City on Sunday afternoon.
The performance was overshadowed by an injury to Christina O’Connor eight minutes into the game, who was taken to hospital to assess the extent of the injury. We will update on Boro’, as she is affectionately known, as and when we have more information about her injury.
Following the delay the Chairgirls sparked into life immediately and took the lead through Samantha Jackson’s tidy finish. The game was played in good spirit and at a good tempo with both teams enjoying spells of possession with the quality of the final ball lacking. However, a slick team build up resulted in Tara Woodward extending the Chairgirls lead on 44 minutes with a smart finish.
The Chairgirls created a few good chances built on some very good forward play from Woodward, the best falling to Chante Inniss who could only find the side netting from a wide angle.
A clean sheet and three points on the road is always heartening and was deserved due, in no small part, to the composed and competent display of Katie Hudson who showed all of her experience and ability throughout, inspiring her team mates to respond positively for the most part of the game.
There are some good signs as the team begins to find its feet at the more senior level with another FA Cup game on Sunday at home to Worthing to look forward to.
