The first round of the County Junior Cup saw the Development team travel to Milton Keynes, with their opponents Great Linford. On paper it was a game that the Chairgirls should win, but as we all know the ‘cup is the cup’.
The benign playing conditions, and the lush flat pitch proved a helpful factor, supporting the team’s passing football. The Chairgirls raced to a 4-0 lead at half time with goals from Chloe Ball (2), Amelie Baker, and Rachel Southby. Emily Wheller and Danika Shah’s strong runs from full back were a particular feature of the first half.
The message at half time was ‘keep the tempo up’, and keep the ball and opposition moving. The Chairgirls did this very successfully and scored a further eight goals in the second half, with goals from Frankie Day (2), Ball (3), Southby (3), Baker (2), Lily Chowdhry, and Sarah Timmins. A good win, with an assured debut from Timmins, who also ‘nicked’ a goal off from a corner, meant a very satisfying performance all round.
