Wycombe Wanderers vs Fleetwood Town
Saturday 4th May 2019, k.o. 5.30pm
Adams Park
Referee: Lee Swabey
Match Sponsor: BMI The Chiltern and Shelburne Hospitals

It's gone by in the blink of an eye... but the 2018/19 season comes to an end tomorrow afternoon and Wycombe Wanderers are on the verge of completing their mission to survive in League 1 and secure their highest league finish in 17 years.

May 3rd marks the five-year anniversary of that day in Torquay, where fairytales came true and new ambitions were set following the final day escape from relegation out of the Football League. The Chairboys could never return to such a perilous position, and set out a plan to improve, win promotion and survive in the third tier within half a decade.

Barring a most unfortunate turn of events, Saturday will be a celebration, hopefully of a victory over Fleetwood, but also the achievement of a finish above the dotted line and the phenomenal success in ticking each year of the plan off in style.

Fleetwood, meanwhile, will finish in the top half following a promising first season under Joey Barton's leadership, and the former Man City and Newcastle man has vowed to ensure his side finish strongly with a second successive victory, having seen off Sunderland in stoppage time on Tuesday night.

Team news
Gareth Ainsworth says some of his players have been battling through the pain barrier in recent weeks, but each member of the squad will hope to be involved in some way.

Fleetwood could welcome Ched Evans and Harry Souttar back into the fold, while boss Barton has been keen to introduce young talent from the youth team into the matchday squad in recent weeks and could hand debuts to the new generation of Cod Army starlets.

The lap of honour will NOT be able to take place if fans attempt to enter the pitch at the end of the match.

As with all matches, there has been dialogue between the club and the police, local authority and the EFL to ensure there is a safe environment at all times and any pitch incursion will prevent the lap of honour taking place.

If fans enter the playing area, the club has been warned it may face a range of possible sanctions that could have serious implications.
