Using the car? These are the recommended road directions
Take the M40 towards London and at Junction 1A take the M25 North (signed Watford). From M25 take Junction 29 and follow the A127 to Southend. Continue towards the town centre, through the lights near to the Bell Pub. At the next roundabout turn right (3rd turning), continuing on the A127. The ground is on the right just past the next traffic lights.
Mileage from High Wycombe = 81 (approx. journey time 1 hour 30 minutes)
Recommended area for car parking
I’ve read that if you turn right as you reach the ground, this will put you behind the away end where there is plenty of street parking to be found. Another option is to use the Southend High School for Boys which offers parking for £5 per car. The school entrance is on Prittlewell Road and is just 5-minutes’ walk from the ground.
Travelling by coach?
OWWSA will be running a coach that will leave Adams Park at 11.30. Travel prices are £17 for adults, £16 for seniors, and £15 for juniors. The price for non-members is £22 (no refund if game is cancelled and the coaches have left their depot). The preferred way to book is by calling into the Caledonian Suite today. Non-members are required to pay at the time of booking their seat. If you wish to book by phone (Rena 01494 520179, Graham 07876 267301) or by e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) you need to do so by Thursday 11th April 11th at 5pm. If booking by email please make sure you receive an acknowledgment.
Using the train?
From London Liverpool Street there is a regular c2c service to Southend Central with journey time around one hour. The station is about a 25-minute walk from the ground. The main bus station though is close to the station and buses do run to the ground.
Facilities for away fans
The ground capacity is 12,392 (All seated). Away fans are normally housed on one side of the North Stand (on the Main Stand side of the ground) where up to 1,200 away supporters can be accommodated. The stand is covered, but there are a number of supporting pillars running across the front of the stand that could impede your view. The ground has modern electronic turnstiles. Each match ticket has a bar code printed onto it and you insert the ticket into a bar code reader at the turnstile to gain admittance. The SUFC telephone number is 01702 304050.
Spare time on your hands?
Note that the “Spread Eagle” near to the ground is for home fans only. At the ground is the Shrimpers Bar that usually admits away supporters. Another option is the “Blue Boar” PH which is located on the main Victoria Road, just up from the ground (going towards Southend town centre) on one corner of the crossroads. There is also a good fish and chip shop located across the road from the Blue Boar by the traffic lights, called the 'Fish House'. The town centre is around a 20-minute walk away, where there are plenty of pubs including a Wetherspoons outlet (the “Last Post” on Weston Road). There are a number of bars along the seafront. Another option is “The Bell” a large Toby Carvery, which you pass on your way into Southend on the A127.
