Jamie makes it six!

Left-back pens one-year deal.

23 July 2019

Gareth Ainsworth has made a sixth signing of the summer so far, securing left-back Jamie Mascoll on a one-year contract.

The 22-year-old has impressed as a trialist during pre-season after leaving Charlton Athletic in the summer, laying on assists for Jacob Gardiner-Smith and Adebayo Akinfenwa in friendlies against Barnet and Brentford respectively, and convinced the Blues boss that he’s worthy of a place in the squad for the 2019/20 League 1 campaign.

Ainsworth said: “Jamie is very quick, very athletic and has shown he’s got an excellent delivery on him, so we believe he’s got the attributes that give us another option in the left-back role.

“For the past five years, Joe Jacobson has absolutely made that position his own and deservedly so because he’s been an outstanding performer for us. In order for us to develop the squad, we need strength in depth and competition across the park, and Jamie will give us an extra dimension when called upon.

“I’ve been really pleased with the calibre of players we’ve been able to bring in this summer so far, which is testament to the hard work of (assistant manager) Richard Dobson and all my staff, the chairman, the backing of Rob Couhig, Mark Palmer and Pete Couhig, and of course the fans who’ve pledged an amazing amount of money through the 500 Club.

“I don’t think we’re quite finished just yet, but Jamie is another important part of the squad who’s fitted in really well so far and I’m sure the fans will make him feel very much at home.”

Mascoll is a product of the non-league scene, starting out with Dulwich Hamlet and enjoying loan spells with Phoenix Sports, Cray Wanderers and Grays Athletic before being snapped up by Charlton to join their under-23 side.

He made six appearances for the Addicks – all in cup competitions – and returned to Dulwich on loan for the second half of last season before leaving Charlton at the end of his contract.

Jamie passed his medical at BMI The Chiltern Hospital on Monday, and will wear squad number 15 at Adams Park.
