The search to find the winner of Cherry Red Records’ ’Singin For Wycombe’ contest is over… and a new Chairboys anthem is born!
‘One Wycombe’ by The Comanche Crew topped the scoring charts in a shortlist of four finalists, selected by a panel of judges from the club and its front of home shirt sponsor, as well as a poll amongst supporters which attracted close to 1,000 votes.
Featuring commentary clips of iconic Wanderers moments by BBC Three Counties commentator Phil Catchpole, plus a catchy chorus, instrumental interludes and vocals from a wide range of supporters young and old, ‘One Wycombe’ will now be adopted as THE Wycombe Wanderers anthem, and can be heard on the pre-match playlist at forthcoming fixtures at Adams Park.
Along with all four finalist entries, the song will also be released digitally across iTunes/Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube Music, Deezer and all the other legal digital platforms that Cherry Red distribute music to.
Andy Rogers, the man responsible for forming the Comanche Crew, said: "Shared memories of great games, goals and players are what unite us as fans. The Comanche Crew brought together five families to relive some of their favourite moments in the history of the club.
"Individually, each had a different story to tell, but we realised that together, we are all One Wycombe. We are delighted to have our song adopted as the new anthem for Wycombe Wanderers and would like to thank the club and Cherry Red Records for the opportunity. "
Adam Velasco, Managing Director of Cherry Red Records, said: "There’s nothing we love more than a great football anthem here at Cherry Red and One Wycombe was voted the winner by a judging panel of Wycombe Wanderers staff and players, Cherry Red and the fans.
"It had an irresistible mix of all the right ingredients to turn this promising, young tune in to a formidable match winner. Congratulations to The Comanche Crew - we hope to hear their anthem ring around Adams Park for many years to come! Thank you to all the entrants as well as the runners up who will appear on a WWFC EP in the near future. We’re delighted to extend our Cherry Red repertoire with a few new tunes from the wonderful fans of Wycombe Wanderers!"
Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth said: “It was fantastic to hear the creativity that had gone into the songs and we had good fun listening to the finalists and deciding upon a winner. Some were more to my personal taste than others, but One Wycombe has a great community feel to it with the many different voices on the record and clearly a lot of effort has gone into it.
“Congratulations to everyone who submitted a song, and a particular well done to the four finalists and to the Comanche Crew for coming out on top.”
Members of the Comanche Crew received their record contract on the pitch at half-time last Saturday, before the record was played out across the stadium.
