While Wycombe Wanderers Ladies' trip to Eastleigh was washed out due to the weather, one of the two under-18 sides recorded a superb 6-0 victory.
Wycombe Wanderers U18 XI 6-0 Wantage
Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League
Saturday 22nd September 2018
Wycombe dominated possession throughout the game, with Wantage defending in numbers and with great resilience, particularly in the first half. This proved a challenge to the Wycombe girls who in the initial stages lacked dynamism and aggression in forward positions and were also guilty of trying to ‘force the issue’ in midfield on too many occasions.
Despite this, Wycombe attacked constantly and pressure told with two goals in the first half. Chloe Ball scored her fourth goal of the season with a well-executed finish into the roof of the net after some good combination play on the edge of the box. This gave the girls a well-deserved cushion to go into half time.
In the second half with their 2-0 lead, Wycombe switched to 4-4-2 which saw strong running from midfield, creative passing and effective switching of play. Halle Poland showed great versatility in her defensive role and was a dominant presence with Yasmin Knock in the centre of defence.
All the girls played their part in the game, particularly Amy Johnston who was the engine of the team showing great pressure and tracking throughout. Similarly, Dani Shah, provided a consistent blanket in defence in her wing back role and as a result received player of the match.
Another week saw a range of goal scorers again with Frankie Day securing her fourth goal of the season, Maddie Woods, Lily Chowdhry Amelie Baker and Chloe Ball securing her second of the game. Wycombe Wanderers U18s XI sit strongly at the top of the TVCWFL.
Both U18s teams travel away to their opponents for their forthcoming games against Oxford City (KO 11.15am) and Wargrave (KO 9:30am). Whilst the Ladies team host Wargrave at home on Sunday 30th September (Spring Lane, HP10 9HE KO 2pm).
