Northampton Town vs Wycombe Wanderers
Checkatrade Trophy Southern Group F
Tuesday 4th September 2018, k.o. 7.45pm
PTS Academy Stadium
Referee: Darren Drysdale

Wanderers begin their 2018/19 Checkatrade Trophy campaign at Northampton on Tuesday night, as the two sides go head-to-head for the second time in less than a month after meeting in the Carabao Cup three weeks previously.

Wycombe will be looking to improve on their group stage exit last season as they take on the League Two Cobblers who made it to the second round of the competition before being knocked out by Portsmouth.

Domestically, it has been a similar start to the season to the Chairboys for Northampton who registered their first league win of the season at Colchester on the same day that Wycombe won at Bradford by the same scoreline. Both teams sit on the same points total in their respective divisions with six from six.

It took penalties to seperate the two teams three weeks ago, as Adam El-Abd and Yves Ma-Kalambay made themselves heroes in the shootout after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Even though Tuesday night's fixture is a group game, should the match finish level at 90 minutes, both teams will receive one point and will contest in another shootout with an extra point to be awarded to the winner.

Team News
With this the ninth fixture within just the first month of the season, Gareth Ainsworth may choose to make changes for this one as he did for the previous two Carabao Cup fixtures.

Charlie Fox and Fred Onyedinma could be in contention to make their full debuts after singing on loan last week, or second full debut in the case of Onyedinma who is enjoying his second spell at the club.

Darius Charles and Nathan Tyson are nearing a return to action but this one may come too soon and skipper Adam El-Abd will miss the fixture as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury. Matt Bloomfield, who came off with a head injury at the weekend, will be assessed ahead of this one.

In opposition, former Chairboys striker Junior Morias will be out after picking up a hamstring injury in Saturday’s draw with Tranmere. Shaun McWilliams could be involved after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Man in the Middle
Darren Drysdale has shown 19 yellow cards and one red in his six games so far this term.

His last game involving Wanderers came in the defeat to Accrington in the Chairboys' penultimate home fixture of 2017/18.

Kit
Wycombe will be in their first choice home kit for this fixture.
