Tara talks: Ladies' top scorer introduces herself

Learn more about the familiar face working with the media team on home matchdays.

4 November 2018

In Saturday's edition of Parklife, the Wycombe Ladies top scorer and new media team addition Tara Woodward introduced herself to Chairboys fans:

Scoring goals for Wycombe is a dream for many people – so I’m proud to represent the club each week not only on the pitch but now also in the media team for the men’s home matches.

I’m Tara Woodward, 21 years old, and officially the club’s top scorer this season (but don’t tell the Beast). I’ve scored 13 goals in six appearances for the ladies team, and we’re currently enjoying a fantastic season with six wins in a row, going strong in two cups and joint top of the league.

I love being out there on the pitch every Sunday and have done since I was four years old, but recently I was invited to take a huge step out of my comfort zone by joining the media team for the games against Scunthorpe and Rochdale. It’s something I have never done before and also something I’ve never seen myself doing, but I love being involved and seeing what goes on behind the scenes on game day.

People probably don’t realise the amount of effort and hard work that goes into match days but since I’ve been involved I can safely say the effort is constant, from the bottom right to the top - it’s nothing but passion and love for the game, the club and also the fans. I’ve had the opportunity to shadow the team but also interview Gareth and players on camera and take over the club’s Instagram account on matchdays, and am learning all the time.

I remember coming to games at Adams Park when I was a kid playing for Hughenden Valley’s boys team where we’d get to go on the pitch and score penalties at half time, so the club has always been quite close to me. Being able to pull on the Wycombe shirt every weekend is a privilege, but being behind the scenes, interacting with all the people that make it possible, is something I’m very proud of.

There are endless amounts of people that are to thank for what they do for the club, too many to even mention, so I’ll keep it short. I’d firstly like to thank Matt Cecil and Tom Jarvis for offering me this opportunity, taking me under their wing and mentoring me through each aspect of what I need to be doing, despite the 101 questions I ask them every game day. They are two guys who work tirelessly behind the scenes on every social media platform, match reports, match day programmes and so much more.

Also, to Gareth, the rest of the management team, and the boys for making me feel so welcome - another great bunch of guys who devote all their time to the sport and club they love. And to you, the fans, thank you for helping make this club as special as it is.

Feel free to give me a wave or say hi if you see me around the ground; I plan on sticking around.
