As Wanderers prepare to take on Luton Town at Kenilworth Road in the first round of The Emirates FA Cup this weekend, take a look back at what happened when we last visited the home of the Hatters.
It was a night to savour for the near-800 Chairboys fans in one corner of the ground as they saw their team overcome league leaders Luton Town with a superb display on Tuesday 30th January 2018; in what Gareth Ainsworth later described as 'the moment' he seriously believed his side could achieve automatic promotion in Sky Bet League Two.
Only 72 seconds had passed when Paris Cowan-Hall struck the first goal, finding the bottom corner with a superb hit after Nathan Tyson’s chance had been parried by keeper Marek Stech.
Brave defending and excellent keeping from Scott Brown kept the Hatters at bay before Tyson doubled the lead, turning home from close range after Dan Scarr headed Joe Jacobson’s corner across the face of goal.
Luton replied when Elliot Lee found the bottom corner while Wycombe were temporarily down to ten men due to an injury to Dominic Gape, but Wanderers held firm at the start of the second period and Brown denied Alan Sheehan with a stunning save from a free-kick on the edge of the box.
Tyson skipped away to make it 3-1 after Gape released the striker with an excellent through-ball, but Town gave themselves hope when Lee finished excellently after his first shot was saved.
Scott Kashket twice went close to sealing the points before Brown came to the rescue during NINE minutes of stoppage time, beating away Harry Cornick’s chance after the striker raced through one-on-one.
Wycombe held firm and recorded a memorable victory to send them into second place, sparking jubilant celebrations amongst the players and the fans on the final whistle.
