Gareth Ainsworth has secured another of his promotion-winning stars for a further year, extending the contract of Sam Saunders until the summer of 2019.
Saunders, 34, has featured 27 times in the Chairboys’ midfield, netting vital strikes against Carlisle in the league and Leatherhead in the FA Cup, and recently returned from injury to help the side pick up crucial points in their pursuit of promotion.
Ainsworth said: “Saunds is a hugely important player for us, both in terms of his ability on the pitch and the experience he brings to the changing room, having spent a lot of his career in League 1 and the Championship.
“Sam has immense talent on the ball and gives us a fantastic attacking threat from midfield, as well as being a specialist at set pieces, so to have him on board for another year is another important step for us.”
Saunders follows in the footsteps of Nick Freeman, Adebayo Akinfenwa, Nathan Tyson, Matt Bloomfield and Craig Mackail-Smith, who have already signed up to play their part in the Chairboys’ first season back in League 1.
