Gareth Ainsworth has received a boost ahead of the players’ return to pre-season training on Thursday with the news that Marcus Bean and Joe Jacobson have signed new contracts to remain at Adams Park.
Midfielder Bean has penned a one-year extension, having joined the club in January 2015 and playing a significant part in the Chairboys’ promotion-winning success last season, not least by scoring a phenomenal last-minute winner in the 4-3 victory over Carlisle United in February.
Left-back Jacobson will enter a fifth and sixth season as a Wanderers player after extending his contract for two years, having become a virtual ever-present in the side and making close to 200 appearances so far.
Ainsworth said: “Beany and JJ are such important players for us on and off the pitch and I’m delighted that two more of the side that helped us win promotion have pledged their future to the club.
“I know Beany is a cult hero with the fans for his goal against Carlisle, but he offers so much to the team. He’s a battler, he breaks things up and he has loads of experience at League 1 level which will be important for us.
“I’ve said many times that for me, JJ is one of the best – if not the best – left-back in the lower leagues and we know exactly what we get with him. He’s an excellent defender, he gives us a fantastic weapon going forward with his deliveries into the box, and he’s another one whose knowledge and experience of higher levels will help us adapt quickly to League 1.”
