Joe Jacobson has spoken of his delight in signing a new two-year contract with Wycombe Wanderers, which will see the full-back extend his stay at Adams Park until the summer of 2020.
The defender was involved 52 times in the promotion winning campaign in 2017/18, scoring six times, providing five assists and helping keep 15 clean sheets in all competitions.
As he prepares to enter his fifth season as a Chairboy, the 31-year-old has been a key part in the club’s progress in that time and is thrilled to continue the journey.
“I’m delighted,” JJ said.
“I’ve always wanted to stay here, I’ve really enjoyed my time here and with the way the last season finished with getting promotion I was desperate to stay and thankfully it has all been done now and I can just concentrate on my football.
“It has been a journey since I joined and a lot of players have come and gone and we’ve had some good seasons, but it was capped off with the promotion we wanted last season which was amazing.
“I think with the gaffer staying here for so long and Andrew Howard too it has that feel of stability here which the club needs and thankfully it paid off.”
Jacobson was also joined in committing his future on Tuesday by midfielder Marcus Bean, who signed a one-year extension.
The duo are two of 17 players from the promotion-winning squad who are in contract for the upcoming season in League One, and JJ feels that stability and maintaining the same team spirit will prove very important next season in League One.
“I think if you can keep the bulk of your squad where everyone still knows the way we play, we all know each other’s roles and I think we need that type of stability to do well.
“I think we’ve got that base now and the gaffer has added a couple who we know and have played against as well as Rocky (Ryan Allsop) being here before, and if we can make sure the new faces that come in can fit right in with the squad I’m sure we can have another successful season.”
