Gareth Ainsworth says each member of his squad is deserving of a place in his starting XI after being impressed by the display in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup triumph over Northampton Town.
The Blues boss made seven changes for the visit of the Cobblers and will have a selection dilemma when Bristol Rovers come to town on Saturday (k.o. 3pm), as he explained to the press at Thursday morning’s media session at the training ground.
“It’s up to me now to pick the team and I’ve got some real decisions to make from position 1 to position 11, because they’ve all put themselves in contention,” he said.
“It’s not necessarily about the best 11 players; it’s about the right blend of players for how we want to play, so that’s for me to decide and we’ll see at 4.45pm on Saturday whether that’s justified,” he added.
Both sides go into the game looking for their first league win of the season but both were victorious in midweek, with Rovers seeing off Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup.
“Rovers have done really well in the past years – they’re a big club with big support and we know they’ll travel in good numbers, so we’re hoping to put 6,000 fans on the gate which would be fantastic.
“We had a blip against Doncaster last week and that was a rude awakening for us, but we’re hoping for the win and that’s what we’re going for. My confidence is high from Tuesday and it’s important that we now get some more league points on the board.”
