Continuing our '25 Years in the EFL' series, we look back at the club's first ever League Cup tie on this day in 1993; a 2-0 victory at third-tier Leyton Orient.
A crowd of 4,151 were inside Brisbane Road to see the league newcomers spring an upset on the third tier O’s, winning 2-0 with goals from Steve Thompson and Tim Langford.
O’Neill commented: "I am very, very pleased. I thought it was the best we have defended for quite some time. I honestly thought we showed a great deal of commitment with last ditch tackles just beating Leyton Orient to the ball nearly every time.”
