Joe Jacobson says the Chairboys will have to put the Accrington defeat behind them quickly as they prepare for two massive games in the race for automatic promotion.
Despite a 0-4 defeat to the league leaders, Wanderers remain in third place going into the last two weeks of the campaign and know that two wins will see them in League One in 2018/19.
Jacobson, speaking to Chloe Briggs after the game, was disappointed with the result and performance against Stanley and says the players will be looking to react against Chesterfield next weekend with much at stake.
“It definitely wasn’t our day today,” he said.
“Accrington proved why they are at the top of the table and they thoroughly deserve to be there as I think they are the best team we have come across this season.
“We gave them a start in the game with the early goal, and before that I actually thought we had started the game quite well, but against good teams like that you cannot afford to give them anything and they punished us really badly today.
“But after such a bad performance to be able to look at the table and see we are still third picks you up a little bit.
“Whatever has gone on has gone on, we are third with two games to go, it’s in our hands and if we win two games we are up which is where we all want to be and we have to now give everything we have got for those two games.
“They are going to be tough. Chesterfield have had a tough defeat today and I know they will be hurting and will want to come right at us, but if we play better than what we did today then I think we have got a great chance of picking up the three points.
“We have to be positive. We have a saying here called ‘drop the weight’ as the defeat is gone now, you can’t change it, and you’ve just got to make sure that next week it doesn’t happen again.”
