Wycombe Wanderers vs Exeter City
Saturday 14th October 2017, k.o. 3pm
Referee: Robert Jones
Fan-owned football is back at Adams Park with two supporter-owned clubs going head-to-head almost a year to the day since they last met in south Bucks – though the feeling is very different this time around.
Last October both sides were struggling at the wrong end of the table and City’s gloom was deepened by Adebayo Akinfenwa’s late winner which secured a 1-0 win for the Chairboys.
This time around, the Grecians arrive sitting top of League 2 following a phenomenal run of form which has laughed off any suggestions that they might suffer a hangover from last season’s agonising play-off final defeat to Blackpool.
They come up against the top scorers in the EFL, with Gareth Ainsworth’s side looking for a fifth consecutive victory to keep up their own superb sequence of results, having seen off Colchester, Crewe, Barnet and Cambridge in the past three weeks.
Nathan Tyson misses out for the Chairboys after suffering knee ligament damage last weekend, joining Michael Harriman (broken leg) and Scott Kashket (pelvis) in the treatment room. Luke O’Nien, Paris Cowan-Hall and Matt Bloomfield are all close to a return, however.
Exeter hope to have Luke Croll available after his knock to cover for the injured Jordan Moore-Taylor, while Ryan Harley is also out.
Man in the middle
Rob Jones officiated two Chairboys games last season, awarding a penalty to either side in the 1-1 draw with Yeovil, as well as the 1-0 loss to Mansfield.
So far this season he’s shown 31 yellow and two red cards in his 12 matches in the middle.
