Gareth: The feel-good factor is back

The Blues boss reflects on the Barnet victory.

2 October 2017

Gareth Ainsworth was delighted with the resilience of his players after they registered three victories in seven days.

The Chairboys responded to the late heartbreak vs Luton by putting Colchester, Crewe and Barnet to the sword last week - results which have pushed Wanderers into the top-seven of Sky Bet League Two.

The manager, refelcting on the 3-1 win over the Bees on Saturday, thought recent results have shown the strength in depth his squad possess.

"To respond to the Luton setback in the way we have done with three wins with some rotation in the squad as well is fantastic," Ainsworth said.

"The team is really firing on all cylinders, there is no star, it is everyone and that is what I want, that is what I've wanted for five years and I think we've been able to build that over five years - to build a squad with depth and entertain.

"It's very pleasing to get nine points this week, and we'll crack on over the next week and hopefully carry on the run against Cambridge."

An away win at Colchester and a home triumph vs Barnet is something Wycombe failed to do last season, and it highlights the progress the team are making in 2017/18.

Wycombe are certainly proving a weapon to teams in League two thus far, and the manager feels there is a positive energy building around the place.

"Within five years we've made good progress and made this club better each year, I'm pretty sure of that, together as players, staff and fans," he added.

"I think the feel-good factor is back around Wycombe where it may have gone a few years ago, so I'm really pleased and proud to see the boys perform like that.

"I thought we were the better team for 80 minutes today and I think that showed in the scoreline.

"We need to keep picking points up, especially at home. I knew we had to be patient with the early fixtures we had at home as they were tough, but now I think we have found our groove and Cambridge away next week is going to be very tough again, but we'll make sure we're ready for that one."
