Trevor Stroud says it will be an honour to become the new chairman of Wycombe Wanderers, and says the club owe a lot to Andrew Howard, who is moving into a new role as Sporting Director.Stroud’s new role will be effective from the 1st of August, succeeding Howard to take overall responsibility for the running of the club.
Howard’s new position will see him focus his efforts on the performance and development of all football matters, working closely with manager Gareth Ainsworth and his staff.
Stroud said: “To become chairman of Wycombe Wanderers will be a very proud and humbling moment for me personally, and I am grateful to the club board for giving me this honour. However, this is not about me - I am just one of a number of people who want the best for this football club and give up their time to that end.
“Everyone involved with the club has made excellent progress since we made the transition into supporter ownership five years ago, and the future looks brighter as we look to build upon the foundations that have been laid, particularly in the past three years in which Andrew has been chairman.
“In 2014 we were in need of a new direction for the club and Andrew came to us with outstanding business acumen, a real passion for sport, and the time and generosity to offer his services to the club without a penny in return.
“What he has done for Wycombe Wanderers cannot be understated; he has done a phenomenal job in turning around an organisation which was in serious danger of going out of business, bringing the whole team together and setting out and delivering a plan for the club to move forward. He and Gareth have a fantastic working relationship and we know we have the right team who we can trust to bring the best out of the playing side of the business. Andrew has a history of success in motorsport, which includes the development of young drivers in an elite environment, and has many skills which will be invaluable in his new role.”
“As chairman, I will do my utmost to serve the supporters in the best possible way and with the help of my fellow directors on the football club and Trust boards - all of whom are volunteers - we will continue to steer Wycombe Wanderers in the right direction, and I’m excited for the challenge.”
