Club votes in favour of maintaining current EFL Trophy format

9 May 2017

Wycombe Wanderers have voted in favour of maintaining the current format of the EFL Trophy for a further two years, following consultation with the Fans Council.

Clubs were asked by the EFL to vote on whether the competition should revert to its previous 48-team format, continue with its current format with 16 invited under-23 teams from the Premier League and Championship, or scrap the competition altogether.

Wanderers reached the semi-final of the Trophy this season, accumulating a six-figure sum in prize money due to increased funding from those invited clubs, and feel that the footballing and commercial advantages are such that the competition should continue in its current format.

The matter was discussed with supporters from the Fans Council, who collectively lent their support to the decision.
