Ahead of this weekend's fixture, we take a look back at a memorable trip to Leyton Orient back in August 2011.
The Chairboys recorded their first win of the season in League One after achieving promotion the previous year, thanks to goals from Ben Strevens, Scott Donnelly and Joel Grant.
Having drawn their opening two fixtures in the league against Scunthorpe United and Colchester United, Wanderers travelled to the then called Brisbane Road Stadium (now the Matchroom Stadium) looking to kick-start their campaign on Tuesday 16th August, under the lights in East London.
Away form was key to the Chairboys' success in 2010/11 and Gary Waddock's side were looking to repeat that winning formula this time around. Wycombe made two changes for the trip with Danny Foster and Stuart Beavon coming in for Marvin McCoy and Scott Rendell; who was the scorer of Wanderer's equaliser at Colchester in the previous game.
Lining up for Orient was former Wycombe striker Alex Revell, though the striker would soon be on his way out, leaving for Rotherham United not two weeks after the game against Wanderers.
The away side came out the traps quickly and it wasn't long before the Chairboys took the lead as Strevens nodded them in front after eight minutes. Gareth Ainsworth, now of course the Wycombe boss, found the attacking midfielder with a sublime cross to give them the lead after an initial corner was cleared.
Waddock's men were hungry for more, though they were pegged back against the run of play on 15 minutes as Dean Cox levelled the scores with a scintillating half-volley.
Back came Wycombe, and they were soon given the chance to retake the lead as Beavon was brought down in the box by Orient's skipper Stephen Dawson in the 18th minute. Donnelly was the man to step up, and he tucked home the penalty to put the Blues back in the ascendancy.
With both sides going for the game's crucial third goal, a thoroughly entertaining game was settled on the 50 minute mark as Ainsworth, for the second time in the match, produced a moment of pure quality to cross for Grant to head Wycombe 3-1 up.
The Chairboys remained solid at the back, and late chances for Sandell and Beavon could have made it an even better night for Wanderers. It finished 3-1 however, and Wycombe were up and running in the league.
Sadly they could not replicate the form shown at Brisbane Road across the whole season, as Waddock's side were relegated with 43 points in 21st position. Orient would finish one place higher and in safety with 50 points.
