Paul McCarthy passes away aged 45

20 February 2017

Wycombe Wanderers are deeply saddened to learn of the death of former player Paul McCarthy at the age of only 45.

The Irishman was one of the heroes of the club's incredible run to the semi-final of the FA Cup in the 2000/01 season, scoring memorable goals against Millwall, Grimsby (home and away), Wimbledon and Leicester along the way.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and former team-mates at this time.

Former secretary Keith Allen was one of the first to post his tribute:

"A top man, top player and top dad. Genuinely devastated to lose one of the finest players and men I ever worked with. Too young. RIP."
